Effective [DATE OF LAUNCH]
Oh Boy Five (“OB5”, “we”, “us”) is a music label run by Means Artist Management LLC, 1000 Main St Unit #2067, Pittsburgh, PA 15215, USA. This policy covers ohboyfive.com. Questions or requests go to hello@ohboyfive.com.
We try to collect as little as we can. This page says what we collect, why, who else touches it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
If you join the newsletter. Your email address and, if you give it, your name. We use them to send OB5 news, releases and playlists. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
If you send us music. The submission form asks for your name and stage name, email, location, your project’s name, links to your music (we do not take file uploads), genre, collaborators, whether your music is already on Spotify, and anything else you want to tell us. We use this to listen, to decide whether to get in touch, and to reply if we do.
If you email us. Whatever you put in the email, used to answer you.
When you visit. Our host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, the page asked for, the time) to run the site and keep it secure. Analytics and advertising tools also record how you use the site, as “Cookies, analytics and advertising” below explains, including when they ask first and how to turn them off.
Settings kept on your device. The site remembers a few choices in your own browser: light or dark mode, whether the stair sound and record crackle are on, and your place in the Manifesto. These stay on your device. We never see them. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.
Players and links. A release’s Spotify player loads only after you press play. Once it does, Spotify may set its own cookies and collect data under Spotify’s privacy policy. Links to Instagram, YouTube, SoundCloud, TikTok, Facebook, Feature.fm and Downtown Music take you to those sites, and their policies apply there.
Who else handles it
Only the services that run the site for us, each limited to its job:
- Cloudflare, which serves the site and keeps the server logs.
- Our form service, hosted on Railway, which receives the newsletter and submission forms. Submissions are stored in Notion and sent to our inbox by email through Resend.
- Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person, not a bot, is sending a form.
- Brevo, which holds the mailing list and sends the emails.
- The analytics and advertising partners listed under “Cookies, analytics and advertising”.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some advertising cookies count as “sharing” under California law (see below), and you can switch them off. If we work with you on a release, details needed for it go to our distribution partner, Downtown Music, under the agreement we sign with you.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect OB5, our artists or anyone else from fraud or harm.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use cookies and similar tools (pixels, local storage) for three things: essential, analytics and advertising. When the analytics and advertising ones run depends on where you are:
- In the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, they run only after you choose Approve in the cookie notice. Decline, and only the essential ones run.
- Everywhere else, including the US, they run when you arrive. You can turn them off at any time with “Cookie settings” or “Do not sell or share my info” at the bottom of every page, or with your browser’s Global Privacy Control setting.
You can change your choice any time from “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
Essential. What the site needs to work and to remember your cookie choice.
Analytics. To see how people find and use the site, so we can make it better:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google), through Google Tag Manager.
- PostHog, which records how pages are used, including anonymized session recordings in which everything you type is hidden.
Advertising. OB5 promotes its releases and artists with ads. These tools measure whether our ads work and let us show OB5 ads to people who visited the site:
- Meta pixel and Conversions API (Facebook, Instagram)
- Google Ads
When advertising cookies are on, these companies receive details such as the pages you visit, your browser and device, and an identifier, and they may combine them with what they already know about you under their own privacy policies. We use Google Consent Mode, so Google’s tags respect your choice.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, advertising cookies stay off, wherever you are.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Submissions: up to 12 months, then deleted, unless we are talking with you about working together.
- Emails: as long as the conversation is useful, and no longer than 24 months after it ends.
- Server logs: as long as Cloudflare keeps them, usually a few weeks.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you. Write to hello@ohboyfive.com and we will answer within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for asking.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on your consent for the newsletter and for analytics and advertising cookies, and on our legitimate interest in running a label for reviewing submissions and answering messages. You can also object to our use of your data, and complain to your local data protection authority. Our services are based in the United States, so your information is handled there.
If you live in California, you have the rights above under California law, plus the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. We do not sell it for money, but advertising cookies can count as sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. To opt out, use the “Do not sell or share my personal information” link at the bottom of every page, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. Opting out does not change how the site works for you.
Children
The site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it. Anyone under 18 submitting music needs a parent or guardian’s consent (see the Submission Terms).
Security
We use services with sensible security and keep access to submissions to the people who listen to them. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, newsletter subscribers hear about it by email.
